🎶 Meet Mr. Matthew
Matthew holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from George Mason University, where he performed in a wide range of ensembles including the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Mason Percussion Group, and several chamber groups. Outside of university, he has showcased his talents with the Rappahannock Pops Orchestra, Festival Pops Orchestra, and the Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps.
“Teaching music has been an incredibly rewarding experience. While I originally planned to pursue a performance degree, I quickly discovered that teaching was where my heart truly lies. The most inspiring people in my life have been my music teachers, and I strive to spark that same passion in my students. Music education is about more than just notes—it's about bringing joy, confidence, and creativity into students’ lives. I’m honored to share that joy in the classroom every day.”
🎶 Elementary Music with Mr. Matt
In our elementary music classes, Mr. Matt brings music to life through engaging, hands-on experiences. Students will explore musical concepts by singing, playing games, and actively participating in lessons that uncover the depth and richness of music.
Throughout the year, students will be introduced to a variety of instruments and musical styles. Using solfege, they’ll build a strong, internal sense of pitch that applies to any musical setting. Rhythm skills are developed through interactive games as well as reading and writing rhythmic patterns, while music literacy is strengthened through consistent exposure to written music. This class builds both confidence and creativity, helping students form a deep connection to music.
🎵 Toddler & Primary Music with Mr. Matt
In our toddler and primary music classes, Mr. Matt introduces young students to the fundamentals of music through active, joyful participation. Using singing, rhythm games, and movement activities tailored to the Montessori environment, students will begin learning to match pitch, recognize rhythms, and develop a strong musical foundation.
Classes are designed to nurture kinesthetic awareness and group synchronization, while also encouraging individual confidence through opportunities to perform and share their own voices. It’s the perfect first step into the world of music!
🎼 After School Music Programs
Looking to dive deeper into music beyond the regular school day? We offer three dynamic after-school opportunities designed to enrich your child's musical journey.
🎹 Private Lessons
For students who want focused, one-on-one instruction, private lessons are the most effective way to progress quickly. Whether your child is just starting out or looking to refine their skills, our experienced instructors tailor each lesson to fit individual goals and learning styles. We highly recommend starting with piano, especially for younger students, but we welcome students to explore any instrument that inspires them.
🥁 After School Drumming Ensemble
Open to elementary-aged students, our Drumming Ensemble offers a fun and energetic introduction to the world of percussion. Participants will explore rudimental drumming, bucket drumming, and groove-based ensemble pieces in a hands-on, collaborative setting. Meeting once a week after school, students will practice foundational techniques, learn exciting new rhythms, and perform as part of a unique percussion group. No prior experience needed—just a passion for rhythm!
